NOISY OFFERING

Each month the Noisy Offering is forwarded to various United Methodist missions as well as local charitable organizations.  This program allows SUMC to support many  organizations in the community and the conference.

SCOTT’S RUN SETTLEMENT HOUSE

SUMC supports this vital community outreach sponsored by the WV Annual Conference.  Several specialty efforts are conducted during the year, including:   Food Pantry Drive, School Supply Drive, Baby New Year (collection of baby items), Weekend Snack Backpacks, and Undie Sunday (collection of new underwear and socks).

THANKSGIVING BASKETS

SRSH staff designates over 100 families to receive groceries for their Thanksgiving dinner. In addition, families within the Suncrest community receive baskets. Family sizes range from two to eleven members with food allocated proportionally. SUMC members order the food, pick up and deliver it to Cowan Hall where the food items are sorted.  Volunteers put together the contents of the baskets, everything from turkeys to canned vegetables, potatoes, stuffing mix, onions, fresh fruit, eggs, butter, and more. SUMC members give generously by covering the $9,000 in expenses through a special offering. Recipients come to SUMC to pick up the baskets under the guidance of the SRSH staff and volunteers.

CLOTHING DRIVES

Seasonal drives benefit Christian Help and Upshur Parish House.

MEALS

SUMC provides meals to Community Programs: Circle of Friends, WV Family Grief Center, and Habitat for Humanity.

CELEBRATION OF MISSIONS EVENT

Members support our district by participating in the C.O.M.E. event.

CHRISTMAS TREE PROJECTS

Members of SUMC bring mittens, hats, and scarves to decorate a tree during the Advent season. Items are distributed equally between SRSH and Upshur Parish House.

SUMC members support an Angel Tree decorated with tags describing the needs and wishes of children sponsored by the Salvation Army.  Members purchase gifts for the angels.

MISSION BLITZ WEEKEND

Work projects are identified and coordinated by Community Repair Partners.

MORGANTOWN BATEY

The Haitian refugees working in the sugarcane industry in the Dominican Republic live in some of the poorest conditions in the Americas. The Haitians are denied legal status and as such they cannot receive any public benefits and their children are denied access to education.  SUMC is supporting one batey (a camp of sugar cane workers), the Morgantown Batey.  In order to maintain support and awareness, the Missions Team mans a “red wagon” in the Narthex the first Sunday of each month for monetary collections. A mere $2.00 donation per person per month will help offer rice, beans and eggs to those living in the batey.  This offering is not to be confused with the weekly loose change offering. Loose change assists local/state missions.  Please help the Missions Team to provide basic necessities to suffering people in the Dominican Republic.

MISSION FUNDRAISING

Fundraising efforts support Mission work of the youth groups, Adult Mission Teams, Volunteers In Missions, Morgantown Batey, and various local and international mission needs.
